Building your Taxonomy Tree
A default taxonomy tree consists of four folders: process, people, product, and place. As you define your rules and word groups, the Rant and Rave sentiment engine will assign feedback to one or more of these folders.
You can expand the taxonomy tree by adding more root categories or creating subfolders to categorize feedback.
To add a root folder:
-
Select the root category folder at the top of the pane to add a new root category.
-
Right click to open the folder menu and select rename to give your new folder a name, e.g. price.
To add a subfolder:
-
Right-click the folder to which you wish to add a subfolder.
-
Select add subcategory from the folder menu.
-
Right click the new folder to open the folder menu and select rename to give your new folder a name, e.g. repair.
Defining rules, terms and word groups
With your taxonomy folders created, use the folder menu to add rules, terms, and word groups to your taxonomy.
-
Right-click the folder to which you wish to add an item.
-
Select:
-
Add term to define a term within that folder.
-
Add word group to define a word group within that folder.
-
Add rule to define a rule within that folder.
-
Adding a taxonomy term
When you select add term from the folder menu, a new term will be added to the folder for you to define.
Enter the name for the term, e.g. repair.
Note: you can also drag terms into the taxonomy tree from the uncategorized terms tab.
Adding a taxonomy word group
Word groups are collections of terms with similar meaning that you may wish to categorize together, e.g. grouping the terms "response" and "reply" together within the taxonomy tree. When you select add word group from the folder menu, the workspace pane will switch to the word groups tab and display the word group creation tool.
Within the tool, you can:
-
Enter words by typing them into the words text box (press enter/return to confirm the word).
-
Use the search box to find suggested words for grouping, e.g. search for the word "feedback" to enter that word and suggested synonyms, e.g. responses, into the word list.
Note: not all of the suggested terms may be relevant to the word group you are creating, e.g. searching for the word 'auto' might return automatic and automobile. If the word group you are creating is for a process, e.g. rental vehicle bookings, and not a product category, e.g. vehicle transmission types, you can remove unwanted suggestions using the x icon next to the word in the list.
Adding a taxonomy rule
You can increase the effectiveness of your taxonomy with rules, e.g. by assigning meaning to a term in proximity of another term.
When you select add rule from the folder menu, the workspace pane will switch to the rules tab and display the rule creation tool.
Note: the creator defaults to the advanced rule version. You can switch to the basic version at the top of the creation tool.
To build a rule (advanced editor):
-
Drag one of the available rules into the rule expression pane.
-
Select the three dots next to the rule you have placed and select config to open the rule editor popup.
-
Use the dropdown menus and textboxes to define your rule. The options depend on your selected rule.
Example: define a rule that matches any word starting with "tenan" to capture the words tenant, tenants and tenancy.
Example: define a rule that exactly matches the word "app" to distinguish between a mobile app and an application form.
Example: define a rule that determines if the word "not" is within three words of "happy" to capture phrases such as not happy, not very happy, etc.
