Over time, some numbers on every list stop working. People cancel lines, switch carriers or block short codes. If you keep sending to those numbers, the messages fail every time. List cleaning finds those numbers and stops sending to them, so your broadcasts reach people who can actually receive them.
The benefits
- Your broadcasts go to reachable people. Cleaned profiles are left out of broadcasts, so your sends focus on subscribers whose phones can receive them.
- Your delivery results are easier to trust. When undeliverable numbers stay on your list, they fail on every send and drag your delivery rate down. Removing them makes your results reflect the subscribers you can reach.
- It protects your short code. Carriers watch how many messages fail on a short code. A short code that keeps sending to dead numbers looks like a poorly managed list, which can lead carriers to filter or slow its traffic.
- Nothing is deleted. A cleaned profile keeps its history, and you can restore it at any time.
What list cleaning doesn't do
- It doesn't delete profiles or subscriptions.
- It doesn't opt anyone out. Opting out is the subscriber's choice, and list cleaning never changes it.
- It doesn't affect other Mobile Commons accounts. Cleaning only uses your account's own sending history.
When to turn it on
List cleaning is off until you turn it on. It's a good fit if you send regularly and want your list to stay current without manual work. To turn it on, see Setting Up List Cleaning.
FAQ
Will my subscriber counts go down?
Probably, a little. Cleaned profiles are left out of some counts while cleaning is on. See Understanding Cleaned Profile Counts.
What if a cleaned number starts working again?
The profile is restored automatically when the subscriber texts you or a later message to them is delivered. You can also restore it yourself. See Restoring Cleaned Profiles.
