Use these sizes and settings so your Rich Card and Carousel media looks right on both iPhone and Android.
Rich Card
| Setting | Use |
|---|---|
| Card Orientation | Vertical |
| Media Height | Tall. The default is Short, so change it. |
| Size | 1620 x 1080 pixels (3:2) |
| Safe area | Keep faces, text, and logos inside the center 1458 x 972 pixels. |
Avoid Horizontal orientation for images and video. On iPhone, images get cut off and videos show sideways.
Carousel
| Setting | Use |
|---|---|
| Card Width | Medium |
| Media Height | Medium |
| Size | 1920 x 1080 pixels (16:9) |
| Safe area | Keep faces, text, and logos inside the center 1728 x 972 pixels. |
Use the same image size on every card. Keep each card's text length and number of buttons about the same, so the cards stay the same height and the crop is predictable. Other width and height combinations crop images on iPhone.
Why the safe area matters
Phones trim images that don't fit the card. Android trims from the center when the image doesn't match the Media Height. iPhone crops images when a subscriber uses a large text size. Leaving a margin of about 5% on every edge keeps your important content visible.
File types
Mobile Commons accepts these file types for RCS:
| File type | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| JPG / JPEG | Displays as sent | Displays as sent |
| PNG | Displays as sent | Displays as sent |
| GIF | Shows only the first frame, as a still image | Animated |
| MP4 | Plays | Plays |
Mobile Commons blocks other file types, such as WebM, 3GP, or VCF, in Rich Cards and Carousels. If you upload one, the upload fails with an error that the file type "is not supported for RCS Rich Cards." The media gallery for Rich Cards and Carousels only lists JPG, PNG, GIF, and MP4 files.
Sending through the Mobile API? The API also accepts H263, M4V, MPEG, MPEG4, and WebM video. Whether a phone plays them depends on the carrier and the device, so use MP4 for video that needs to work on both iPhone and Android.
Tips:
- For animation, use MP4, not GIF. GIFs don't animate on iPhone.
- Videos use the same sizes as images. Use 1620 x 1080 for a Rich Card and 1920 x 1080 for a Carousel card.
- Videos may not show a preview frame in the card. Some phones show a default video icon until the subscriber taps it. Put your key message in the title, not in the video.
File sizes
Keep each file under these sizes:
| Image | Video | |
|---|---|---|
| Rich Card | 2 MB | 10 MB |
| Carousel card | 1 MB | 5 MB |
To keep a 1920 x 1080 Carousel image under 1 MB, save it as a JPEG.
