Suggested Actions and Replies are interactive buttons that appear below your RCS message. Actions trigger device-level behaviors: calling a number, opening a URL, adding a calendar event, or showing a map pin. Replies let recipients respond with a single tap, sending predefined text back to your campaign.
They work across all four RCS message types: Basic, Enhanced, Rich Card, and Carousel.
How to add Suggested Actions
From the content menu
- In the Conversation stepper, select + Content.
- Select Suggested Actions → Next.
- A popup shows checkboxes for available types: Dial Phone, Open URL, and (for Enhanced/Rich Card/Carousel) Location and Calendar Event.
- Select the ones you want → Confirm.
From an existing action
Select the kebab menu on any Suggested Action → Add Suggested Action → choose the type.

How to add Suggested Replies
From the content menu
- Select + Content → Suggested Replies → Confirm.
- A Suggested Reply block appears in the composer.
- Kebab menu → Add Suggested Response to define each reply chip.
Reply chip limits
- Chip text: max 25 characters
- Each Suggested Reply block: up to 5 responses
Nested reply conversations
Replies support a tree structure for multi-step interactions:
| Parameter | Limit |
|---|---|
| Reply templates per message | 1 |
| Top-level responses per template | 5 |
| Nested replies per response | 5 |
| Max nesting depth | 2 levels |
| Response body | 1,000 characters |
When a recipient taps a reply chip, the system sends a follow-up RCS message with the response body and any child suggestions. Responses can include their own media attachment.
Billing: The system bills each follow-up as its own RCS message. The tier depends on its content: text-only follow-ups bill as Rich (per segment), follow-ups with media bill as Rich Media (flat rate). Broadcasts with reply trees can generate more billed messages than the original recipient count. See Rcs Billing Limits And Specs for details.
Suggestion limits by message type
| Message Type | Max suggestions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 11 | Dial Phone, Open URL, Replies only. No Location or Calendar. |
| Enhanced | 11 | All types. Location/Calendar change billing to Rich Media. |
| Rich Card | 4 | Actions + replies combined share this limit. |
| Carousel | Varies | Depends on card width and title/description. See Build A Carousel. |
Once you hit the limit, the Add button disables.
Managing actions and replies
Use the kebab menu on any action or reply:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Move Up / Move Down | Reorder chips. Preview updates immediately. |
| Edit | Reopen the form with values pre-populated. |
| Delete | Remove with confirmation. Can't be undone. |
| Expand / Collapse | Toggle the block in the composer. State persists across stepper steps. |
Deletion rules for replies
- Deleting the only reply in a block removes the entire block.
- Deleting a parent reply deletes all its nested responses.
- If only one response exists in a reply block, you can't delete it individually. Delete the parent instead.
Tips
- MO matching. When a recipient taps a reply chip, the inbound message matches to the corresponding Suggested Reply. Matching is case-insensitive and ignores leading/trailing whitespace.
- Empty chips. You must enter chip text. Leaving it blank produces "Chip text is required."
- Preview. Chips appear below the message bubble in the mobile preview, matching device behavior. They update in real time and are consistent across Conversation, Review, and View pages.
- Default labels. If you leave a title blank, the chip shows a default: "Call", "Web", "Map", or "Calendar".
