Survey Manager is a self-service tool for creating, customising and managing surveys in Rant & Rave. You can build a survey, brand it, preview it and share it without raising a support request.
Build your survey
Before you can create a survey, your project needs a metadata field named workflow, of type filterable string. Survey Manager checks for it and will block survey creation if it's missing. When a response comes in, the survey name is written into this field so you can tell which survey the feedback came from.
Click New Survey and give your survey a name. Names must be unique.
Use Add Content to add a title, a text block or a question to the current page. Each question is linked to a customer field, which is what captures the answer.
Surveys can span multiple pages. New pages are added at the end, and page order is fixed. A confirmation page is always the last page in the survey. You can edit what it says, but you can't remove it.
A footer is configured in its own section and applies to every page. It can be switched on or off and holds up to 200 words.
Click Save to save the survey.
Conditional logic
Conditional logic controls which questions a respondent sees based on how they answered earlier ones.
Click Survey Logic to open the rules editor. A rule sets a condition on a question and a Skip Todestination. Where several rules point at the same destination, they combine with OR. Each question also has an Add Logic button that opens the same editor with that question already selected.
The conditions available depend on the field type:
- Score: greater than, less than, equal to, not equal to, and the inclusive variants.
- Filterable string: equals, does not equal.
- Unstructured text and multi-language: is filled, is empty.
- Timestamp: before, after, on.
If rules contradict each other, a CONFLICT label appears on the affected question in both the rules editor and the builder, with a count shown at the tab level. A survey with unresolved conflicts can't be saved.
Design your survey
Open the Design tab to control how your survey looks.
- Logo: upload a PNG up to 250KB.
- Background: upload a PNG up to 5MB, or set a background colour.
- Colour: enter a HEX code, or use the colour picker, which holds 15 saved colours.
- Header strip: show or hide the header strip and set its transparency. Your logo stays visible when the strip is hidden.
Use Apply to confirm your changes, Cancel to discard them, or Reset to return to defaults.
Preview your survey
Click Preview to open your survey in a new tab. Nothing entered in preview is processed or stored. The progress bar reflects the number of pages in the survey.
Organise and tag
Tagging attaches context to every response without asking the respondent for it.
In the tagging section of the builder, select any metadata field already configured on your account, then either give it a fixed value or set it to take its value from a named URL parameter when the survey link is opened. Parameter values change per respondent, so the same survey can run across multiple pages or placements without creating copies.
Tagged values are never shown to respondents and are submitted with the response on completion. A field used as a tag can't also be used as a question in the same survey.
Manage your survey library
Find a survey. All your surveys appear in one list. Search by name, and sort by creation date, newest or oldest first. Use the copy link action to get a survey's permalink.
Edit. Only active surveys can be edited. Archived surveys are read-only.
Archive. Move a survey between the Active and Archived lists at any time. Archived surveys are labelled Archived next to the survey name.
Duplicate. Duplicate is available from a survey's options menu and works on both active and archived surveys. The copy inherits all content and design, and everything can be edited before you save. The copy isn't created until you click Save, and it needs a name that isn't already in use.
Delete. Only archived surveys can be deleted. The option is disabled on active ones. You'll be asked to confirm, and a confirmation message appears once it's done.
What respondents see
Respondents open the survey from its link and can reuse the same link to take it again. The survey adapts to mobile, tablet and desktop. Mandatory fields must be completed before submission, and email and phone number fields are validated. A progress bar updates as they go, and a back button lets them return to earlier pages. A confirmation screen is shown at the end.
Responses are held and resent if the connection drops, so feedback isn't lost in transit.
Where responses go
Completed responses come into Rant & Rave as feedback, alongside feedback from your other channels, and you can view and work with them wherever you normally do. Each response carries the survey name in the workflow field, so you can filter to a single survey, and the answers land in the customer fields you linked your questions to.
