Provided information on SMS Failover for MMS
Answer
About
SMS failover provides some options for messaging subscribers who can not receive MMS messages. You may select to provide these subscribers with a failover message that displays the image as a link, or simply suppress them from the messages.
Upon adding an attachment to your message (in opt-in paths, broadcasts or message schedule rows), you will see the option to "Suppress SMS Failover". This checkbox will default to checked-meaning NO messages will be sent if the recipient can not receive MMS. If you uncheck it then any recipient who is on a carrier known to not support MMS or whose delivery receipt provided certain failure codes will have the message sent to them as an SMS with a link to the image. This will allow people who can not receive MMS to still get your message!
Suppressing the message:
Recipients who can not receive MMS will receive no message. Please note, if you leave this checked then subscribers who can not receive MMS will not receive this message, or any subsequent messages in the conversation. Please note, that if the message before the MMS message is one that asks something of a subscriber, let's say it is "Reply with your email to get a cute MMS of a puppy." and the user replies but they are not able to receive MMS & you have have the suppress failover checked they will not receive any response. This could be confusing if they were expecting a reply. Furthermore, they will not receive any subsequent messages in your conversation-so if you have more messages after your MMS they will not receive any of those.
Sending the image as a link:
When you deselect the "Suppress SMS Failover" we will send an SMS with a link to the image. This is for recipients whose carriers are known not to support MMS, and for recipients for whom we tried to send the MMS but got back a failure code that allows us to try to resend as SMS we will send your message as an SMS with a link to the image.
This is how the message will appear to subscribers without MMS capabilities:
