Problem Description
Customers who want real-time Slack alerts when a new inbound SMS is received in Mobile Commons. Mobile Commons does not currently offer a webhook or Zapier trigger for incoming SMS messages.
Workaround / Resolution
MC supports email notifications for new inbound text messages. This email can be used as a Zapier trigger (via Gmail, Outlook, etc.) to send a Slack alert to the appropriate channel.
Steps:
- In Mobile Commons, go to the user's profile settings and enable "New Text Message Alerts" under Email Preferences.
- In Zapier, create a Zap with an email trigger. This creates a Zapier email address where you can forward external emails to.
- In the email client, set up the user's email to forward the notifications from MC to the Zapier email address from step#2.
- Add a Zapier module to send a Slack message to the desired channel, based on the received email from the previous step.
