About
You can build out multiple choice questions to deeply engage your subscribers and further segment your list. Multiple Choice is available in opt-in paths and your regular messages.
Multiple choice will allow you to build out normalized responses to a question and associate those responses with clear message/opt-in path reporting.
How-To
To get started with multiple choice, simply build out a message or opt-in path. (Please note if you are using an opt-in path you must include compliance language. The below example does NOT include that content.)
Example:
Here is an example flow. We are asking our subscribers to tell us what their favorite cupcake flavor is. We've provided them with 4 options and are using some simple liquid to provide different responses based on our subscribers' replies.
Getting Started
To get started, write your multiple choice question. On the right hand side of the content creation window select "Multiple Choice Question".
Once selected you'll fill in your possible choices. To ensure multiple choice works correctly you'll want to be mindful of how you are filling in your choices. In each choice box first, put the NORMALIZED response followed by comma separated other responses, like mis-spellings.
The FIRST item in the box is, as mentioned, the normalized response. This is what you will use in any follow up liquid, it is also what will be saved on a user's profile. All entries in these boxes will save as lowercase. Please make sure your liquid responses are in lowercase. Liquid is case sensitive.
Example:
If you need more than just the first 4 choices available, simply select "More Choices" below the choice boxes.
Upon selecting "More Choices" the window will be significantly expanded with more choices.
NOTE: In multiple-choice options/choices, all the letters are converted to lowercase when the conversation is saved. This is designed this way to make these choices easier to use with Liquid if needed, since Liquid is case-sensitive.
Testing your Liquid
If you are using Liquid in your follow up answer, as we are here, please be sure to test with the liquid tester using the normalized first choice.
Require Valid Response
If you want to require a valid response you may do so by selecting "Require Valid Response" on the "What do you want to do?" menu.
By selecting this the subscriber will receive the message until they respond with a valid response (one that matches an item in the choices box). To make this tool work well we recommend using some simple liquid to provide a variant on your question. When the subscriber does not reply with a valid response, they will receive the item in the "if repeating_question" liquid as opposed to the "else" which is the message they will receive the first time.
Phone Experience and Profile
When a user interacts with your multiple choice question with a valid response choice they will receive back the associated liquid. Below, you'll see a phone interaction and the associated profile. Please note the subscriber replied "funfetti" which normalizes to c because that is the first item in our choices box. They received the 'c' liquid response and 'c' is saved as the value on the custom field in their profile.
Multiple Choice Reporting
You can easily track your responses in your opt-in path report or broadcast report. Navigate to the "Report" and then you'll see the Multiple Choice responses broken down by percentage.
